What does local SEO cost? Local SEO pricing, and the three bills

Executive Summary & Core Definition

Three bills, not one: the free profile, the site you can buy once, and the work that repeats every month.

"Local SEO" is one phrase and three bills, and the cost hides in which of the three you will be paying again every month. A business owner asking what local SEO costs is usually asking exactly that, and the honest answer is that only one of the three is a subscription — and the industry has arranged for it to be the one that recurs.

The three bills

The first two are what the market sells. The third is what actually decides whether you are found — and it is the one no platform can do for you.

What each one costs

Two of the three carry a number you can check. The third is the one you have to ask for.

How much should a website cost carries the build bands with their sources and dates, and the difference between what a site costs in year one and what it costs in year two.

Why one of them has a number and the other does not. The site is bought once, so its price is published and comparable — the bands above are the market's own, quoted by the firms that sell the work. The upkeep is sold as a subscription by the people who do it, so it is quoted rather than listed, and the quote is the answer. A page that printed one average for it would be inventing the single number the buyer most needs to be able to check.

And if the retainer also carries the site's upkeep, that half is published too, under a different name: Monthly website maintenance prints what the care-plan market charges and what a plan actually includes.

Why "local SEO" reads as a monthly line

Because for most of the industry it is one. A builder that sells a site at a teaser rate and renews it at several times that rate has turned a one-off engineering job into a recurring line, and the number on the invoice is what a buyer compares. That mechanism is measured, not rumoured: the audited renewal steps behind Why do website builder renewals spike by 2x to 4x? run from 3.68x to 4.26x on the two cheapest Hostinger tiers. A builder whose second year costs four times its first has not changed the work; it has changed the invoice.

What the site part actually buys

Not a position. The markup cannot promise a ranking, and this page does not try to sell one. What it buys is the set of facts a machine can read instead of inferring: the type, the address, the coordinates, the hours, the area you cover, the services you take, the licence you hold. A page that declares them, loads in under 50ms from the edge, and shows a tap-to-call number is the part of local SEO that is engineering — and engineering is the part you can buy once.

What to read before you buy anything

  • The second year, not the first. A promotional rate is not a price.

How to read a renewal table is the procedure, and the audited figures are in Why do website builder renewals spike by 2x to 4x?.

  • The profile before the site. A Business Profile is free to claim and

free to maintain, and it is the surface the map results come from. How to get found on Google covers both halves and says which is which.

  • Whether the work is yours to keep. A site you cannot export is a

subscription whether or not the invoice says so. What happens to my website if I cancel my builder subscription? is the test.

  • What the retainer buys, in writing. The upkeep bill is the one that

recurs, so it is the one that has to be specific: which hours, which reports, whose names, and what happens when you stop. A retainer described in adjectives is a retainer that renews in adjectives.
